Bytemark are looking to add another System Administrator to our existing Support Team, based at our York offices. To fulfil this technical role, you need to have Linux and customer service skills as well as a passion for solving system administration issues for our customers.

Closes 02/08/18.

Main responsibilities

This role is centred around customer service and system administration. You'll give advice to a wide variety of customers, helping them to troubleshoot their servers across a wide variety of operating systems (mostly Linux).

  • answer telephone and email queries
  • keep track of queries through a ticketing system
  • provide technical advice on various topics such as DNS, web servers, database administration, email and WordPress
  • be friendly and help your colleagues build their own knowledge
  • contribute to customer-facing documentation
  • contribute to the maintenance of internal IT systems
  • participate in our out-of-hours support rota, averaging 1 week in 7 (these weeks attract double your normal pay)

Skills we're seeking

  • Linux systems experience, whether trained or self-taught
  • Working knowledge of LAMP stack: Apache, MySQL, deploying PHP applications; willingness to learn other technologies

We would like you to have a commitment to your own professional development and actively seek learning opportunities. Bytemark will pay for 5 days of conference or training (including expenses) each year to pique your interest and pick up new skills.

Location

This position is based at our friendly, modern York office (YO26 6BL).

Employment Terms & Benefits

You will be expected to work 37.5 hours per week. Days start between 8 to 10am and finish between 4 to 6pm, as part of a team rota with some degree of flexibility. You will also be expected to participate in the out of hours rota after training, usually 8 weeks.
