We're a UK Hosting company making a difference in how we hire.
Bytemark are looking for a Product Owner to write and organise features in our software development process. The Product Owner represents both our staff and customers' needs to our engineering team, and implements our overall product plan. If you'd enjoy being at the heart of a modern software development process and growing a hosting company with thousands of customers, we'd like to hear from you. Agile process experience would be helpful but isn't necessary.
Closes 09/03/18.
The Product Owner is the liaison between the Managing Director and our Engineering Team, writing out, organising and building Bytemark's product backlog according to the product plan.
Key duties will be:
This is a relatively new position, and we are open-minded about the person we'll employ. However we are primarily selecting on these skills:
The job involves presenting to the engineering team in our monthly engineering planning meeting.
If you've worked in any of these areas, we would be particularly interested to hear from you. However none of these are requirements.
We're a customer-centred company and have always looked for these:
The Product Owner will work closely with the Managing Director to help build out Bytemark's mass market hosting products to a new vision.
We would like you to have a commitment to your own professional development and actively seek learning opportunities. Bytemark will pay for 5 days of conference or training (including expenses) each year to pique your interest and further your skill-set.
We'll also pay for relevant UX training with the Nielsen/Norman group.
Bytemark is 30-person strong hosting company founded 15 years ago, now with around 3000 customers. Our head office is in beautiful, historic York. Our mission is to provide solid, reliable hosting with a strong focus on the UK market. We have a deep appreciation for the free software movement and as we've grown, made sure that our recruitment and management are truly equal-opportunity, providing a flexible 37.5 hour average work week and family-friendly employment policies.
Whilst we have a mix of staff in traditionally "technical" and "non-technical" roles, everyone in the company is encouraged to excel in their field, regardless of their position or workflow.
Our two largest teams are currently Engineering & Customer Support — building things and helping our customers use them is where we spend most of our time. The Product Owner role is a crucial and new liaison on the company, joining up stakeholders and customers with engineering.
Hosting has been a solid business, allowing us risks that narrow software startups couldn't. Owning our own data centre has given us amazing security. We're using our 15 years of experience to continue this history of innovation and to build a company structure with a long-term view.
This position will be based in our York office. Our company has been split between York, Manchester and several fully remote workers for years, so we have various ways of making more remote options work, if you have the right experience. However we will strongly prefer someone who can work in our York office.
Our whole team comes to our York HQ three times per year for a meal, catch-up and talks, but each department meets up on a much more regular basis.
Our policies and benefits enable every staff member to balance both family and work commitments, without sacrificing individual ambition or professional development.
Please understand these points before applying:
There's no "cultural fit" requirement. If you're a keen learner, customer focused and can work well within a team, we'd love to have you on-board.
